[101] "Field" (khetta) means wherever grain crops (pubbaṇṇa) or secondary crops (aparaṇṇa) grow. "Goods situated in a field" means goods deposited in a field in four situations: situated in the ground, situated on the ground, situated in the air, situated aloft.
Thinking, "I shall carry off the goods situated in the field," with a mind intent on theft (theyyacitta) he searches for a companion or goes there: an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). He touches them: an offense of wrong-doing. He makes them move: a grave offense (thullaccaya). He removes them from their place: an offense entailing defeat (pārājika).
With a mind intent on theft he touches grain crops or secondary crops grown there, worth five māsakas or more than five māsakas: an offense of wrong-doing. He makes them move: an offense of thullaccaya. He removes them from their place: an offense of pārājika.
He lays claim to the field: an offense of wrong-doing. He causes doubt to arise in the owner: an offense of thullaccaya. The owner, thinking, "It will not be mine," relinquishes his responsibility: an offense of pārājika. Pursuing the legal process, he defeats the owner: an offense of pārājika. Pursuing the legal process, he is himself defeated: an offense of thullaccaya.
He shifts a boundary post, a rope, a fence, or a boundary marker: an offense of wrong-doing. When one effort remains yet to be completed: an offense of thullaccaya. When that effort is completed: an offense of pārājika.
