[18] The earth deities raised the cry: "Alas, sirs! The Saṅgha of bhikkhus has been free of blight (abbuda), free of danger (ādīnava); yet Sudinna the Kalandaka's son has produced a blight, has produced a danger!" Having heard the cry of the earth deities, the deities of the Four Great Kings raised the cry; the Tāvatiṃsa deities, the Yāma deities, the Tusita deities, the Nimmānarati deities, the Paranimmitavasavattī deities, the deities of Brahmā's retinue raised the cry: "Alas, sirs! The Saṅgha of bhikkhus has been free of blight, free of danger; yet Sudinna the Kalandaka's son has produced a blight, has produced a danger!" Thus in that moment, in that instant, the cry ascended as far as the Brahmā world.
Then the former wife (purāṇadutiyikā) of the Venerable Sudinna, upon the maturing of that pregnancy, gave birth to a son. Then the companions of the Venerable Sudinna gave that boy the name Bījaka; they gave the former wife of the Venerable Sudinna the name Bījaka's Mother (Bījakamātā); they gave the Venerable Sudinna the name Bījaka's Father (Bījakapitā). At a later time, both of them, having gone forth from the household life into homelessness, realized arahantship.
