[501] Bhikkhus, once in the past, the father of Raṭṭhapāla the clansman addressed Raṭṭhapāla the clansman in verse:
"Even people I do not know, Raṭṭhapāla — many people —
having approached me, beg from me; why do you not beg from me?"
"A beggar is not dear; one who, being begged, does not give is not dear.
Therefore I do not beg from you — let there be no enmity toward me."
Bhikkhus, if Raṭṭhapāla the clansman could speak thus even to his own father, what need is there to speak of one person toward another?
