[118] Thus have I heard: having eaten the meal of Cunda the smith, the Wise One was touched by a grievous illness, bordering on death. When the Teacher had eaten the sūkaramaddava, a grievous sickness arose in him; while purging, the Blessed One said: "I shall go to the city of Kusinārā." (These verses were spoken by the compilers at the time of the Council.)
