[129] Now at that time the twin sāla trees were in full bloom with flowers out of season. Those flowers rained down, showered down, and strewed themselves upon the body of the Tathāgata in worship of the Tathāgata. Divine mandārava flowers, too, fell from the sky; they rained down, showered down, and strewed themselves upon the body of the Tathāgata in worship of the Tathāgata. Divine sandalwood powder, too, fell down from the sky; it rained down, showered down, and strewed itself upon the body of the Tathāgata in worship of the Tathāgata. Divine instruments, too, played in the sky in worship of the Tathāgata. Divine choruses, too, resounded in the sky in worship of the Tathāgata.
Then the Blessed One addressed the venerable Ānanda: "Ānanda, the twin sāla trees are in full bloom with flowers out of season; they rain down, shower down, and strew themselves upon the body of the Tathāgata in worship of the Tathāgata. Divine mandārava flowers, too, fall from the sky; they rain down, shower down, and strew themselves upon the body of the Tathāgata in worship of the Tathāgata. Divine sandalwood powder, too, falls from the sky; it rains down, showers down, and strews itself upon the body of the Tathāgata in worship of the Tathāgata. Divine instruments, too, play in the sky in worship of the Tathāgata. Divine choruses, too, resound in the sky in worship of the Tathāgata. Yet it is not merely to this extent, Ānanda, that the Tathāgata is honored, respected, esteemed, worshipped, or revered. Whoever, Ānanda—whether a bhikkhu, a bhikkhunī, a layman, or a laywoman—dwells practicing in accordance with the Dhamma (dhammānudhammapaṭipanna), practicing rightly, conducting himself according to the Dhamma, he it is who honors, respects, esteems, and worships the Tathāgata with the supreme worship. Therefore, Ānanda, you should train yourselves thus: 'We shall dwell practicing in accordance with the Dhamma, practicing rightly, conducting ourselves according to the Dhamma.'"
