[134] "Ānanda, there are these four persons worthy of a stūpa (thūpāraha). Which four? A Tathāgata, an Arahant, a Fully Self-Awakened One (sammāsambuddha), is worthy of a stūpa; a Paccekabuddha (paccekasambuddha) is worthy of a stūpa; a disciple (sāvaka) of the Tathāgata is worthy of a stūpa; a wheel-turning monarch (rājā cakkavatti) is worthy of a stūpa.
"And on account of what benefit, Ānanda, is a Tathāgata, an Arahant, a Fully Self-Awakened One worthy of a stūpa? Thinking, 'This is the stūpa of that Blessed One, the Arahant, the Fully Self-Awakened One,' Ānanda, many people make their minds serene with confidence; and having made their minds serene there, upon the breaking up of the body, after death, they arise in a good destination, a heavenly world. It is on account of this benefit, Ānanda, that a Tathāgata, an Arahant, a Fully Self-Awakened One is worthy of a stūpa.
"And on account of what benefit, Ānanda, is a Paccekabuddha worthy of a stūpa? Thinking, 'This is the stūpa of that Paccekabuddha,' Ānanda, many people make their minds serene with confidence; and having made their minds serene there, upon the breaking up of the body, after death, they arise in a good destination, a heavenly world. It is on account of this benefit, Ānanda, that a Paccekabuddha is worthy of a stūpa.
"And on account of what benefit, Ānanda, is a disciple of the Tathāgata worthy of a stūpa? Thinking, 'This is the stūpa of a disciple of that Blessed One, the Arahant, the Fully Self-Awakened One,' Ānanda, many people make their minds serene with confidence; and having made their minds serene there, upon the breaking up of the body, after death, they arise in a good destination, a heavenly world. It is on account of this benefit, Ānanda, that a disciple of the Tathāgata is worthy of a stūpa.
"And on account of what benefit, Ānanda, is a wheel-turning monarch worthy of a stūpa? Thinking, 'This is the stūpa of that righteous king who ruled by the Dhamma (dhammika dhammarājā),' Ānanda, many people make their minds serene with confidence; and having made their minds serene there, upon the breaking up of the body, after death, they arise in a good destination, a heavenly world. It is on account of this benefit, Ānanda, that a wheel-turning monarch is worthy of a stūpa. These, Ānanda, are the four persons worthy of a stūpa."
