[165] "Furthermore, Ānanda, the elephant-treasure (hatthiratana) appeared to King Mahāsudassana — all white, standing firmly upon seven points, possessed of psychic power (iddhi), travelling through the air, a king of elephants named Uposatha. On seeing him, King Mahāsudassana's mind was gladdened: 'A splendid elephant-vehicle indeed, sirs, if only he would submit to taming!' Then, Ānanda, that elephant-treasure submitted to taming, just as a fine thoroughbred elephant, thoroughly well tamed over a long time. Once upon a time, Ānanda, King Mahāsudassana, testing that very elephant-treasure, mounted him in the morning and, having traversed the earth bounded by the ocean, returned to the royal capital Kusāvatī and took his morning meal. Such, Ānanda, was the elephant-treasure that appeared to King Mahāsudassana."
