[177] Then, Ānanda, Sakka, lord of the devas, knowing with his own mind the reflection that had arisen in the mind of King Mahāsudassana, addressed the young deva Vissakamma: "Come, friend Vissakamma, build for King Mahāsudassana a dwelling, the palace named Dhamma."
"So be it, good sir," Ānanda, the young deva Vissakamma replied in assent to Sakka, lord of the devas; and just as a strong man might extend his bent arm or bend his extended arm, so he vanished from among the Tāvatiṃsa devas and appeared before King Mahāsudassana. Then, Ānanda, the young deva Vissakamma said this to King Mahāsudassana: "Sire, I shall build for you a dwelling, the palace named Dhamma." King Mahāsudassana consented by silence.

The Dhamma Palace, Ānanda, had eighty-four thousand pillars of four kinds: one pillar of gold, one of silver, one of beryl, one of crystal. The Dhamma Palace, Ānanda, was laid with planks of four kinds: one plank of gold, one of silver, one of beryl, one of crystal. The Dhamma Palace, Ānanda, had twenty-four staircases of four kinds: one staircase of gold, one of silver, one of beryl, one of crystal. The staircase of gold had posts of gold, with cross-bars and coping of silver. The staircase of silver had posts of silver, with cross-bars and coping of gold. In the Dhamma Palace, Ānanda, there were eighty-four thousand peaked chambers of four kinds: one peaked chamber of gold, one of silver, one of beryl, one of crystal. In the peaked chamber of gold a couch of silver was spread; in the peaked chamber of silver a couch of gold was spread; in the peaked chamber of beryl a couch of ivory was spread; in the peaked chamber of crystal a couch of masāragalla gem was spread. At the door of the peaked chamber of gold stood a palm tree of silver: its trunk was of silver, its leaves and fruits of gold. At the door of the peaked chamber of silver stood a palm tree of gold: its trunk was of gold, its leaves and fruits of silver. At the door of the peaked chamber of beryl stood a palm tree of crystal: its trunk was of crystal, its leaves and fruits of beryl.
