[139] Food to be chewed and eaten, then what is licked and savored—
of these he was the giver, with flavors foremost and supreme;
by that deed of good conduct
he rejoiced long in the Nandavana Grove.
Returning here, he attains the seven prominences of flesh,
and finds the palms of his hands and the soles of his feet soft;
those skilled in the signs and marks declared
that this betokened his gaining of flavorful foods to chew and eat.
Not for the householder alone does that mark reveal its meaning:
even gone forth, he attains that very same thing—
supreme gainer of foods to chew and eat,
they declared him the cutter of all the bonds of household life.
