[224] Then the Blessed One, not long after the Mallas of Pāvā had departed, surveyed the Saṅgha of bhikkhus (bhikkhu) who had fallen silent, and addressed the Venerable Sāriputta: "Sāriputta, the Saṅgha of bhikkhus is free of dullness and drowsiness (thīna-middha). Let a talk on the Dhamma occur to you, Sāriputta, for the bhikkhus. My back is aching; I shall stretch it." "So be it, venerable sir," the Venerable Sāriputta replied to the Blessed One. Then the Blessed One, having spread out his outer robe (saṅghāṭi) folded in four, lay down in the lion's posture (sīhaseyyā) on his right side, placing one foot upon the other, mindful and clearly comprehending, having attended in mind to the perception of rising.
