[274] **Four individuals (cattāro puggalā):**
Here, friends, a certain individual is one who torments himself (attantapo), devoted to the practice of tormenting himself.
Here, friends, a certain individual is one who torments others (parantapo), devoted to the practice of tormenting others.
Here, friends, a certain individual is both one who torments himself, devoted to the practice of tormenting himself, and one who torments others, devoted to the practice of tormenting others.
Here, friends, a certain individual is neither one who torments himself, not devoted to the practice of tormenting himself, nor one who torments others, not devoted to the practice of tormenting others. He, tormenting neither himself nor others, dwells in this very life hungerless, quenched, become cool, experiencing happiness, with a self become divine (brahmabhūtena attanā).
