[41] Bhikkhus, people heard of it: "It seems, sirs, that whoever takes what is not given from others, reckoned as theft, the king utterly suppresses them, destroys them root and all, and cuts off their heads." Having heard this, it occurred to them: "What if we too were to have sharp weapons made? Having had sharp weapons made, then from whomever we take what is not given, reckoned as theft, we shall utterly suppress them, destroy them root and all, and cut off their heads." So they had sharp weapons made; and having had sharp weapons made, they set about raiding villages, they set about raiding towns, they set about raiding cities, and they set about committing robbery on the highways. And from whomever they took what was not given, reckoned as theft, they utterly suppressed them, destroyed them root and all, and cut off their heads.
