[429] What six things should be produced? Six constant abidings (satatavihārā). Here, friends, a bhikkhu, having seen a form with the eye, is neither glad nor sad, but dwells with equanimity (upekkhā), possessed of mindfulness (sati) and clearly comprehending (sampajāno). Having heard a sound with the ear … Having smelled an odor with the nose … Having tasted a flavor with the tongue … Having touched a tangible with the body … Having cognized a mental phenomenon (dhamma) with the mind, he is neither glad nor sad, but dwells with equanimity, possessed of mindfulness and clearly comprehending. These six things should be produced.
