[52] "Vāseṭṭha, there are these four classes (vaṇṇa): khattiyas, brāhmaṇas, vessas, and suddas. Some khattiya here, Vāseṭṭha, kills living beings, takes what is not given, engages in misconduct with regard to sensual pleasures, speaks falsely, speaks divisively, speaks harshly, chatters idly, is covetous, has a mind of ill will, and holds wrong view. Thus, Vāseṭṭha, those dhammas that are unwholesome and reckoned as unwholesome, blameworthy and reckoned as blameworthy, not to be cultivated and reckoned as not to be cultivated, unworthy of the noble ones and reckoned as unworthy of the noble ones—dark, with dark results, censured by the wise—these are found even in some khattiyas here. Some brāhmaṇa too, Vāseṭṭha, … Some vessa too, Vāseṭṭha, … Some sudda too, Vāseṭṭha, kills living beings, takes what is not given, … holds wrong view. Thus, Vāseṭṭha, those dhammas that are unwholesome and reckoned as unwholesome, … dark, with dark results, censured by the wise—these are found even in some suddas here."
