[65] Among those very same beings, Vāseṭṭha, certain beings, having taken up the practice of sexual intercourse (methunadhamma), applied themselves to distinct occupations. "Having taken up the practice of sexual intercourse, they apply themselves to distinct occupations" — thus indeed, Vāseṭṭha, the term "vessas, vessas" arose. Thus indeed, Vāseṭṭha, in this way of this … [abridged in the Pali] … Thus indeed, Vāseṭṭha, in this way there came about the origination of this circle of suddas through an ancient, primordial term — for those very same beings and no others; for those like them alone, not for those unlike them; by Dhamma alone, not by what is contrary to Dhamma. For Dhamma, Vāseṭṭha, is supreme among this people, both in this very life and in the life to come.
