[72] "The khattiya is best among those people
who take the clan as their standard;
but one accomplished in true knowledge (vijjā) and conduct (caraṇa)—
he is best among gods and humans."
Now that verse, Vāseṭṭha, was well sung by Brahmā Sanaṅkumāra, not badly sung; well spoken, not badly spoken; connected with benefit, not unconnected with benefit; and it has my approval. I too, Vāseṭṭha, say this:
"The khattiya is best among those people
who take the clan as their standard;
but one accomplished in true knowledge and conduct—
he is best among gods and humans."
Thus spoke the Blessed One. Elated, Vāseṭṭha and Bhāradvāja rejoiced in the Blessed One's words.
The Aggañña Sutta, the fourth, is concluded.
