[1] Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Ukkaṭṭhā, in the Subhaga Grove, at the root of a royal sāla tree. There the Blessed One addressed the bhikkhus: "Bhikkhus." "Venerable sir," those bhikkhus replied to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said this: "Bhikkhus, I will teach you the exposition of the root of all dhammas (sabbadhammamūlapariyāya). Listen to it and attend well; I will speak." "Yes, venerable sir," those bhikkhus replied to the Blessed One.
