[105] "Cunda, I say that even the arising of a thought (cittuppāda) is of great benefit with regard to wholesome qualities (kusalā dhammā) — what, then, should be said of following through with body and speech? Therefore, Cunda, in this matter the thought should be aroused: 'Others will be cruel; here, we shall not be cruel.' The thought should be aroused: 'Others will kill living beings; here, we shall abstain from killing living beings.' … The thought should be aroused: 'Others will adhere to their own views, grasp them tightly, and relinquish them with difficulty; here, we shall not adhere to our own views, not grasp them tightly, and shall relinquish them easily.'"
