[107] Just as, Cunda, whatever unwholesome (akusala) qualities there are, all of them lead downwards, and whatever wholesome (kusala) qualities there are, all of them lead upwards; even so, Cunda, for a cruel individual it is non-cruelty that serves for going upwards. For an individual who kills living beings, abstinence from killing living beings serves for going upwards. For one who takes what is not given … For an individual who is attached to his own views, holding them tightly and relinquishing them with difficulty, it is non-attachment to his own views, not holding them tightly, and relinquishing them easily that serves for going upwards.
