[196] Bhikkhus, when the wanderers of other sects (aññatitthiyā paribbājakā) speak thus, they should be told: "But, friends, what is the gratification (assāda) in sensual pleasures (kāmā), what is the danger (ādīnava), what is the escape (nissaraṇa)? What is the gratification in forms, what is the danger, what is the escape? What is the gratification in feelings (vedanā), what is the danger, what is the escape?" Being questioned thus, bhikkhus, the wanderers of other sects will not be able to explain, and further they will fall into vexation. For what reason? Because, bhikkhus, that is not within their domain. Bhikkhus, I do not see anyone in the world with its devas, with its Māras, with its Brahmās, in this generation with its ascetics and brahmins, with its devas and human beings, who could satisfy the mind with an answer to these questions, except the Tathāgata, or a disciple of the Tathāgata, or one who has heard it from here.
