[235] The Blessed One said this: "Bhikkhus, here a bhikkhu dwells depending on a certain jungle thicket (vanapattha). While he is dwelling depending on that jungle thicket, unestablished mindfulness does not become established, the unconcentrated mind (citta) does not become concentrated, the unexhausted taints (āsava) do not come to exhaustion, and he does not attain the unattained unsurpassed security from bondage (yogakkhema); and those requisites of life that should be procured by one gone forth—robes, almsfood, lodging, and medicinal requisites for the sick—come to him with difficulty. Bhikkhus, that bhikkhu should reflect thus: 'I am dwelling depending on this jungle thicket. While I am dwelling depending on this jungle thicket, unestablished mindfulness does not become established, my unconcentrated mind does not become concentrated, my unexhausted taints do not come to exhaustion, and I do not attain the unattained unsurpassed security from bondage; and those requisites of life that should be procured by one gone forth—robes, almsfood, lodging, and medicinal requisites for the sick—come to me with difficulty.' Bhikkhus, that bhikkhu should depart from that jungle thicket, whether by night or by day; he should not remain."
