[242] "Bhikkhus, here again a bhikkhu lives in dependence on a certain person. As he lives in dependence on that person, unestablished mindfulness (sati) becomes established, the unconcentrated mind (citta) becomes concentrated, the unexhausted taints (āsava) come to exhaustion, and he attains the as-yet-unattained supreme security from bondage (yogakkhema); and those requisites of life that must be procured by one gone forth—robes, almsfood, lodging, and medicinal requisites for the sick—come to him with little difficulty. Bhikkhus, that bhikkhu should reflect thus: 'I am living in dependence on this person. As I live in dependence on this person, unestablished mindfulness becomes established, the unconcentrated mind becomes concentrated, the unexhausted taints come to exhaustion, and I attain the as-yet-unattained supreme security from bondage; and those requisites of life that must be procured by one gone forth—robes, almsfood, lodging, and medicinal requisites for the sick—come to me with little difficulty.' Bhikkhus, that bhikkhu should follow that person even for as long as life lasts; he should not depart from him, even if he is driven away."
Thus spoke the Blessed One. Delighted, those bhikkhus rejoiced in the Blessed One's words.
The Vanapattha Sutta, the seventh, is concluded.
