[263] Thus have I heard:
On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Sāvatthī, in Jeta's Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika's monastery. Now at that time the venerable Moliyaphagguna was dwelling in association with the bhikkhunīs beyond proper measure. So closely was the venerable Moliyaphagguna dwelling in association with the bhikkhunīs that if any bhikkhu spoke dispraise of those bhikkhunīs in the presence of the venerable Moliyaphagguna, the venerable Moliyaphagguna would thereby become angry and displeased, and would even initiate a disciplinary proceeding (adhikaraṇa); and if any bhikkhu spoke dispraise of the venerable Moliyaphagguna in the presence of those bhikkhunīs, those bhikkhunīs would thereby become angry and displeased, and would even initiate a disciplinary proceeding. So closely was the venerable Moliyaphagguna dwelling in association with the bhikkhunīs.
Then a certain bhikkhu approached the Blessed One; having approached and paid homage to the Blessed One, he sat down to one side. Seated to one side, that bhikkhu said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, the venerable Moliyaphagguna is dwelling in association with the bhikkhunīs beyond proper measure. So closely, venerable sir, is the venerable Moliyaphagguna dwelling in association with the bhikkhunīs that if any bhikkhu speaks dispraise of those bhikkhunīs in the presence of the venerable Moliyaphagguna, the venerable Moliyaphagguna thereby becomes angry and displeased, and even initiates a disciplinary proceeding; and if any bhikkhu speaks dispraise of the venerable Moliyaphagguna in the presence of those bhikkhunīs, those bhikkhunīs thereby become angry and displeased, and even initiate a disciplinary proceeding. So closely, venerable sir, is the venerable Moliyaphagguna dwelling in association with the bhikkhunīs."
