[319] Bhikkhus, being one in search of what is wholesome (kiṃkusalagavesī), seeking the unsurpassed supreme state of peace, I wandered by stages through the Magadhan country and arrived at Senānigama in Uruvelā. There I saw a delightful stretch of ground, a pleasing woodland grove, a clear-flowing river with good fords, delightful, and all around a village to resort to for alms. Bhikkhus, it occurred to me: 'Delightful indeed is this stretch of ground; the woodland grove is pleasing, the river flows clear, with good fords, delightful; and all around is a village to resort to for alms. This is indeed suitable for the striving of a clansman intent on striving.' So, bhikkhus, I sat down right there, thinking: 'This is suitable for striving.'
