[336] When his mind (citta) is thus concentrated (samādhi), purified, bright, unblemished, rid of corruptions (upakkilesa), malleable, workable, steady, and attained to imperturbability, he directs the mind to the knowledge (ñāṇa) of the recollection of past lives. He recollects his manifold past lives, that is: one birth, two births … Thus, with their aspects and particulars, he recollects his manifold past lives. This too, brahmin, is called a footprint of the Tathāgata, and a trace frequented by the Tathāgata, and a marking of the Tathāgata. But even so far a noble disciple does not yet come to the conclusion: "The Blessed One is a Fully Awakened One, the Dhamma is well proclaimed by the Blessed One, the Saṅgha of the Blessed One's disciples is practicing well."
