[395] Now at that time several bhikkhus were walking up and down in the open air. Then Saccaka the Nigaṇṭha's son approached those bhikkhus and said to them: "Where, sirs, is the worthy Gotama dwelling at present? For we wish to see that worthy Gotama." "Aggivessana, the Blessed One has plunged into the Great Wood (Mahāvana) and is sitting at the root of a certain tree for the day's abiding." Then Saccaka the Nigaṇṭha's son, together with a great assembly of Licchavis, plunged into the Great Wood and approached the Blessed One; having approached, he exchanged greetings with the Blessed One, and when the courteous and memorable talk was concluded, he sat down to one side. And of those Licchavis, some paid homage to the Blessed One and sat down to one side; some exchanged greetings with the Blessed One and, when the courteous and memorable talk was concluded, sat down to one side; some raised their joined palms in salutation toward the Blessed One and sat down to one side; some announced their name and clan in the presence of the Blessed One and sat down to one side; some kept silent and sat down to one side.
