[410] (The Blessed One said:) "Certainly, Aggivessana, these words of yours were spoken assailingly and presumptuously. Nevertheless, I shall answer you. Aggivessana, ever since I shaved off my hair and beard, clothed myself in the ochre robes, and went forth from the home life into homelessness, it has not been possible that an arisen pleasant feeling (vedanā) should overwhelm my mind (citta) and remain, or that an arisen painful feeling should overwhelm my mind and remain."
(Saccaka said:) "Surely, then, there does not arise in the worthy Gotama such a pleasant feeling as, having arisen, could overwhelm his mind and remain; surely there does not arise in the worthy Gotama such a painful feeling as, having arisen, could overwhelm his mind and remain."
