[51] "It may be, brahmin, that you think thus: 'Surely even today the ascetic Gotama is not free from lust (rāga), not free from hatred, not free from delusion; that is why he still resorts to remote lodgings in the wilderness and forest.' But, brahmin, it should not be seen thus. Seeing two reasons, brahmin, do I resort to remote lodgings in the wilderness and forest: seeing a pleasant abiding here and now for myself, and out of sympathy (anukampā) for the generation to come."
