[515] The Blessed One said this: "Bhikkhus, there are these four ways of undertaking things (dhammasamādāna). What four? There is, bhikkhus, a way of undertaking things that is pleasant in the present but ripens as suffering (dukkha) in the future. There is, bhikkhus, a way of undertaking things that is both painful in the present and ripens as suffering in the future. There is, bhikkhus, a way of undertaking things that is painful in the present but ripens as pleasure in the future. There is, bhikkhus, a way of undertaking things that is both pleasant in the present and ripens as pleasure in the future."
