[96] That bhikkhu, bhikkhus, being of such virtue, of such character (dhamma), of such wisdom, even if he eats almsfood (piṇḍapāta) of fine hill-rice with the dark grains picked out, with many soups and many curries, that is no obstacle for him. Just as, bhikkhus, a cloth that is soiled and stained with dirt, on coming to clear water, becomes pure and clean; or as native gold (jātarūpa), on coming to the mouth of a furnace, becomes thoroughly pure and bright; even so, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu of such virtue, of such character, of such wisdom, even if he eats almsfood of fine hill-rice with the dark grains picked out, with many soups and many curries, that is no obstacle for him.
