[145] Rāhula, develop the meditation of loving-kindness (mettā); for, Rāhula, when you develop the meditation of loving-kindness, whatever ill will (byāpāda) there is will be abandoned. Rāhula, develop the meditation of compassion (karuṇā); for, Rāhula, when you develop the meditation of compassion, whatever cruelty (vihesā) there is will be abandoned. Rāhula, develop the meditation of altruistic joy (muditā); for, Rāhula, when you develop the meditation of altruistic joy, whatever discontent (arati) there is will be abandoned. Rāhula, develop the meditation of equanimity (upekkhā); for, Rāhula, when you develop the meditation of equanimity, whatever aversion (paṭigha) there is will be abandoned. Rāhula, develop the meditation on the unattractive (asubha); for, Rāhula, when you develop the meditation on the unattractive, whatever lust (rāga) there is will be abandoned. Rāhula, develop the meditation on the perception of impermanence (aniccasaññā); for, Rāhula, when you develop the meditation on the perception of impermanence, whatever conceit 'I am' (asmimāna) there is will be abandoned.
