[183] "Here, Udāyi, a bhikkhu, quite secluded from sensual pleasures … enters and dwells in the first jhāna; with the stilling of thought and examination (vitakka-vicāra) … he enters and dwells in the second jhāna; with the fading away of rapture (pīti) … he enters and dwells in the third jhāna; with the abandoning of pleasure … he enters and dwells in the fourth jhāna. This is called the happiness of renunciation (nekkhamma), the happiness of seclusion, the happiness of peace, the happiness of awakening (sambodhi). It should be pursued, developed, and cultivated; one should not fear that happiness, I say."
