[25] Then the Blessed One, having dressed, taking his bowl and robe, went together with the Saṅgha of bhikkhus (bhikkhu) to the town hall; having arrived, he washed his feet, entered the town hall, and sat down leaning against the central pillar, facing east. The Saṅgha of bhikkhus too, having washed their feet, entered the town hall and sat down leaning against the western wall, facing east, placing the Blessed One before them. The Sakyans of Kapilavatthu too, having washed their feet, entered the town hall and sat down leaning against the eastern wall, facing west, placing the Blessed One before them.
Then the Blessed One, having for much of the night instructed, roused, inspired, and gladdened the Sakyans of Kapilavatthu with a talk on the Dhamma, addressed the venerable Ānanda: "Ānanda, let the trainee who is practising (sekho pāṭipado) occur to you to speak of for the Sakyans of Kapilavatthu. My back is aching; I shall stretch it." "Yes, venerable sir," the venerable Ānanda replied to the Blessed One. Then the Blessed One, having spread out his outer robe (saṅghāṭi) folded in four, lay down in the lion's posture on his right side, placing one foot overlapping the other, mindful (sati) and clearly comprehending (sampajāno), having attended to the perception of the time for rising.
