[308] "It is wonderful, worthy Ānanda, it is marvellous, worthy Ānanda, that these four unreliable kinds of spiritual life (anassāsikāni brahmacariyāni) have been declared to be unreliable kinds of spiritual life by that Blessed One who knows and sees, the Arahant, the Fully Self-Awakened One—wherein a wise person would, to the best of his ability, not live the spiritual life, and, if living it, would not accomplish the right way, the wholesome teaching (ñāyaṃ dhammaṃ kusalaṃ). But, worthy Ānanda, what does that teacher assert, what does he declare, under whom a wise person would, to the best of his ability, live the spiritual life, and, living it, would accomplish the right way, the wholesome teaching?"
