[380] "But, Udāyi, is there a world of exclusive happiness (ekantasukha loka)? Is there a practice with a sound basis (ākāravatī paṭipadā) for the realization of a world of exclusive happiness?"
"Venerable sir, in our own teacher's doctrine it is thus: 'There is a world of exclusive happiness; there is a practice with a sound basis for the realization of a world of exclusive happiness.'"
"But, Udāyi, what is that practice with a sound basis for the realization of a world of exclusive happiness?"
"Venerable sir, here someone, abandoning the killing of living beings, abstains from the killing of living beings; abandoning the taking of what is not given, abstains from the taking of what is not given; abandoning misconduct in sensual pleasures, abstains from misconduct in sensual pleasures; abandoning false speech, abstains from false speech; and he proceeds having undertaken some particular observance of asceticism (tapoguṇa). This, venerable sir, is that practice with a sound basis for the realization of a world of exclusive happiness."
