[428] Then Raṭṭhapāla the clansman (kulaputta), thinking, "My mother and father do not permit me to go forth from the household life into homelessness," lay down right there on the bare ground, resolving, "Right here shall be either my death or my going forth." Then Raṭṭhapāla the clansman did not eat even one meal, did not eat even two meals, did not eat even three meals, did not eat even four meals, did not eat even five meals, did not eat even six meals, did not eat even seven meals.
