[483] When this was said, King Madhura Avantiputta said to the venerable Mahākaccāna: "Excellent, worthy Kaccāna! Excellent, worthy Kaccāna! Just as if, worthy Kaccāna, one were to set upright what had been overturned, or to uncover what had been concealed, or to point out the path to one who was lost, or to hold up an oil lamp in the darkness so that those with eyes might see forms — even so has the Dhamma been made clear in many ways by the worthy Kaccāna. I go to the worthy Kaccāna for refuge, and to the Dhamma, and to the Saṅgha of bhikkhus. May the worthy Kaccāna remember me as a lay follower who has gone for refuge for life, from this day forward."
