[485] "If indeed, worthy Kaccāna, I should hear that that Blessed One (Bhagavā) was within ten yojanas, I would go even ten yojanas to see that Blessed One, the Arahant, the Fully Self-Awakened One. If indeed, worthy Kaccāna, I should hear that that Blessed One was within twenty yojanas … thirty yojanas … forty yojanas … fifty yojanas, I would go even fifty yojanas to see that Blessed One, the Arahant, the Fully Self-Awakened One. And if, worthy Kaccāna, I should hear that that Blessed One was within a hundred yojanas, I would go even a hundred yojanas to see that Blessed One, the Arahant, the Fully Self-Awakened One. But since, worthy Kaccāna, that Blessed One has attained final Nibbāna (parinibbuta), I go for refuge to the Blessed One even though he has attained final Nibbāna, and to the Dhamma, and to the Saṅgha of bhikkhus. May the worthy Kaccāna remember me as a lay follower (upāsaka) who has gone for refuge for life, from this day forth."
