[501] Moreover, Prince, deities, seeing me, spoke thus: "The ascetic Gotama has died." Some deities spoke thus: "The ascetic Gotama has not died, but he is dying." Some deities spoke thus: "The ascetic Gotama has not died, nor is he dying; the ascetic Gotama is an arahant (arahaṃ); such indeed is the dwelling (vihāra) of an arahant."
