[516] "What do you think, Rājakumāra? Suppose a man were to come here, thinking, 'Prince Bodhi (Bodhi Rājakumāra) knows the art of mounting an elephant and wielding the goad; I shall train in the art of mounting an elephant and wielding the goad in his presence.' But if he were without faith, he would not attain what can be attained by one who has faith. If he were of much affliction, he would not attain what can be attained by one of little affliction. If he were devious and deceitful, he would not attain what can be attained by one who is not devious and not deceitful. If he were lazy, he would not attain what can be attained by one of aroused energy. If he were of weak wisdom, he would not attain what can be attained by one possessed of wisdom. What do you think, Rājakumāra? Could that man train in the art of mounting an elephant and wielding the goad in your presence?"
"Venerable sir, if that man were possessed of even a single one of these factors, he could not train in the art of mounting an elephant and wielding the goad in my presence — what need be said of all five factors?"
