[531] "In that case, Aṅgulimāla, go to that woman, and having approached her, say to her thus: 'Sister, since I was born, I do not recall having intentionally deprived a living being of life. By this truth, may there be safety for you, may there be safety for your unborn child.'"
"Venerable sir, surely that would be a deliberate lie on my part; for, venerable sir, I have intentionally deprived many living beings of life."
"In that case, Aṅgulimāla, go to that woman, and having approached her, say to her thus: 'Sister, since I was born in the noble birth (ariyā jāti), I do not recall having intentionally deprived a living being of life. By this truth, may there be safety for you, may there be safety for your unborn child.'"
"Yes, venerable sir," the venerable Aṅgulimāla replied to the Blessed One. He went to that woman, and having approached her, he said to her: "Sister, since I was born in the noble birth, I do not recall having intentionally deprived a living being of life. By this truth, may there be safety for you, may there be safety for your unborn child."
Then there was safety for the woman, and there was safety for her unborn child.
