[612] Then the Venerable Sela, together with his assembly, approached the Blessed One; having approached, he arranged his robe over one shoulder, extended his joined palms in reverence toward the Blessed One, and addressed the Blessed One in verses:
"Since we came to you for refuge (saraṇa), O One with Vision (cakkhumā), this is the eighth day;
in seven nights, Blessed One, we have been tamed in your teaching (sāsana).
You are the Buddha, you are the Teacher, you are the sage (muni), the vanquisher of Māra;
you are skilled¹ in the underlying tendencies (anusaya); crossed over yourself, you bring this generation across.
The attachments (upadhi) have been transcended by you; the taints (āsava) have been shattered by you;
like a lion, free from clinging, you have abandoned fear and dread.
These beings, [now] bhikkhus,² stand with joined palms raised;
stretch forth your feet, O Hero — let the great ones (nāgā) pay homage to the Teacher."
The Selasutta, the second, is finished.
