[664] "Brahmin, I do not say that one is better because of high birth, nor do I say that one is worse because of high birth. I do not say that one is better because of great beauty (uḷāravaṇṇatā), nor do I say that one is worse because of great beauty. I do not say that one is better because of great wealth, nor do I say that one is worse because of great wealth. For here, brahmin, someone of high birth kills living beings, takes what is not given, engages in sexual misconduct, speaks falsely, speaks divisively, speaks harshly, indulges in idle chatter, is covetous, has a mind of ill will, and holds wrong view (micchādiṭṭhi); therefore I do not say that one is better because of high birth. But here, brahmin, someone of high birth abstains from killing living beings, abstains from taking what is not given, abstains from sexual misconduct, abstains from false speech, abstains from divisive speech, abstains from harsh speech, abstains from idle chatter, is uncovetous, has a mind without ill will, and holds right view (sammādiṭṭhi); therefore I do not say that one is worse because of high birth.

Brahmin, I do not say that everyone should be served, nor do I say that no one should be served. For if, brahmin, when one serves someone, by reason of that service faith (saddhā) grows, virtue (sīla) grows, learning (suta) grows, generosity (cāga) grows, and wisdom (paññā) grows, then that one, I say, should be served."
