[740] "So then, Bhāradvāja, seeking what is wholesome (kusala), searching for the unsurpassed state of sublime peace (santivarapada), wandering by stages through the Magadhan country, I arrived in due course at Senānigama in Uruvelā. There I saw a delightful stretch of ground, an inspiring woodland grove, a flowing river with cool water and pleasant, smooth fords, and all around, a village for alms resort. Then, Bhāradvāja, this occurred to me: 'Delightful indeed is this stretch of ground; the woodland grove is inspiring; the river flows with cool water, with pleasant, smooth fords; and all around there is a village for alms resort. This is truly suitable for the striving of a clansman intent on striving.' So, Bhāradvāja, I sat down right there, thinking: 'This is suitable for striving.'"
