[87] Then the Blessed One said this to Seniya the naked ascetic, the one who kept the dog observance (kukkuravatta): "Seniya, this indeed is what I did not obtain from you, when I said: 'Enough, Seniya, let that be; do not ask me that.'"
[Puṇṇa the Koliyaputta, the cow-observance practitioner, said:] "Venerable sir, I do not weep at that which the Blessed One has said to me; but rather, venerable sir, this cow observance (govatta) has long been fully undertaken by me. Venerable sir, I have such confidence in the Blessed One: the Blessed One is able to teach the Dhamma in such a way that I might abandon this cow observance, and this naked ascetic Seniya, the one who keeps the dog observance, might abandon that dog observance."
"Then, Puṇṇa, listen and attend carefully; I shall speak."
"Yes, venerable sir," Puṇṇa the Koliyaputta, the one who kept the cow observance, replied to the Blessed One.
