Suttapiṭaka · Majjhimanikāya · Vol. 14 · Section 162

[162] Bhikkhus, furthermore, Sāriputta, having completely surmounted the base of nothingness (ākiñcaññāyatana), enters and dwells in the base of neither-perception-nor-non-perception (nevasaññānāsaññāyatana). Mindful, he emerges from that attainment (samāpatti). Having mindfully emerged from that attainment, he contemplates those dhammas that are past, ceased, and changed: "So indeed these dhammas, not having been, come into being; having been, they vanish." With regard to those dhammas he dwells unattracted, unrepelled, independent, unbound, released, dissociated, with a mind (citta) made free of boundaries. He understands: "There is an escape beyond this." Through the repeated practice of that, it is confirmed for him that there is.
