[21] Bhikkhus, there is still another case. With the stilling of thought (vitakka) and examination (vicāra), a bhikkhu enters and dwells in the second jhāna, which has internal serenity and unification of mind (citta), is without thought and without examination, and has rapture and happiness born of concentration (samādhi). Bhikkhus, in this way too, exertion is fruitful, striving is fruitful.
