[323] "Furthermore, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu is endowed with faith, endowed with virtue, endowed with learning, endowed with generosity, endowed with wisdom. He has heard: 'The Brahmā of Two Thousand … the Brahmā of Three Thousand … the Brahmā of Four Thousand … the Brahmā of Five Thousand is long-lived, beautiful, and abounding in happiness.' The Brahmā of Five Thousand, bhikkhus, dwells having pervaded and resolved upon a five-thousandfold world-system (lokadhātu); and even the beings who have arisen there — them too he dwells having pervaded and resolved upon. Just as, bhikkhus, a man with good eyesight, having placed five gallnuts (āmaṇḍa) in his hand, might examine them, even so, bhikkhus, the Brahmā of Five Thousand dwells having pervaded and resolved upon a five-thousandfold world-system; and even the beings who have arisen there — them too he dwells having pervaded and resolved upon. It occurs to him thus: 'Oh, that with the breakup of the body, after death, I might be reborn in companionship (sahabyatā) with the Brahmā of Five Thousand!' He exerts that mind (citta), he resolves upon that mind, he develops that mind. Those volitional formations and those abidings (vihārā) of his, thus developed, thus made much of, lead to rebirth there. This, bhikkhus, is the path, this is the practice that leads to rebirth there."
