[355] "And how, Ānanda, do disciples treat (samudācaranti) the Teacher with hostility, not with friendliness? Here, Ānanda, the Teacher teaches the Dhamma to his disciples, being compassionate and seeking their welfare, out of sympathy: 'This is for your welfare; this is for your happiness.' But his disciples do not wish to listen, do not lend an ear, do not apply their minds to understanding (aññā), and they proceed having turned aside from the Teacher's instruction. It is in this way, Ānanda, that disciples treat the Teacher with hostility, not with friendliness."
