[391] Then the novice (samaṇuddesa) Aciravata taught the Dhamma to Prince Jayasena as he had heard it and as he had learned it. When this was said, Prince Jayasena said to the novice Aciravata: "It is impossible, worthy Aggivessana, it cannot come to pass, that a bhikkhu dwelling diligent, ardent (ātāpī), and resolute could touch unification of mind." Then Prince Jayasena, having declared to the novice Aciravata that it was impossible and could not come to pass, rose from his seat and departed.
Then the novice Aciravata, not long after Prince Jayasena had departed, approached the Blessed One; having approached and paid homage to the Blessed One, he sat down to one side. Sitting to one side, the novice Aciravata reported to the Blessed One the entire conversation he had had with Prince Jayasena.
